Largest Ever Portrait of Nelson Mandela

We’re privileged to have the world exclusive on the largest ever portrait of Nelson Mandela. At a colossal 4.2m squared, the stunning image dwarfs the 6ft 5” tall South African artist Paul Blomkamp. The painting is rendered in Blomkamp’s hallmark medium of acrylic paints on nine individual canvasses, which collectively form the overall image.  It took him 14 months to create as a tribute to one of the world’s most inspirational statesman for his forthcoming 95th birthday.

Blown Away

She famously wore couture to breakfast, was a muse to milliner Philip Treacy and championed the late, great Alexander McQueen – breaking and redefining the fashion rules with her eccentric style.  So, it comes as no surprise that six years after her tragic suicide, Isabella Blow’s maverick style should be honoured for all to enjoy in a major exhibition.

Bon Appetit, Boulestin Style

One of London’s most influential restaurants reopens its doors after a 19-year hiatus.  Joel Kissin, Sir Terence Conran’s former business partner, will open Boulestin on the former site of L’Oranger in St James’s.

Piano Forte

Here’s a new musical first to enjoy this year, the Roli Seaboard Grand. The new touch-sensitive keyboard allows musicians to manipulate digital sound like never before.

Designed by a Dalston-based technology start up, the keyboard uses SEA Technology, a disruptive platform sensor technology that is highly precise, information-rich and pressure sensitive.  It captures 3D gestures while simultaneously providing the user with tactile feedback.

Keys can be stroked to bend pitch and wobbled to create vibrato, essentially allowing user control of fundamental sound characteristics, such as sound, pitch, volume and timbre. With these new sonic possibilities, the keyboard provides an exciting new bridge between acoustic and electronic musical approaches. Now that’s music to our ears.

Launching autumn 2013
