The View From The Shard

VeryFirstTo Luxforecast Spring 2013

1.1. Z.Boat By Zaha Hadid

The Z.Boat is a limited production 8m motorboat built by Shoreteam in France and designed by Zaha Hadid. The asymmetrical design is sculptural in appearance while practically affording more seating accommodations. The idea is to think of this vessel as a highly individualistic expression of art, architecture and design, reflecting the edge of what is possible using the most advanced means, including materials, software systems, and methods of fabrication.

2.1. The View From The Shard

Europe's tallest building, The Shard, will open its doors this February. Amongst its many attractions is The View from The Shard. Breathtaking, panoramic views await. High-speed lifts will transport visitors to viewing platforms, housed on the 68th, 69th and 72nd floor. On a clear day, London's newest landmark will offer 40-mile views from high above the city, ensuring The View from The Shard will be one of the capital's most sought-after visitor attractions.

3.2. Hiriko Folding Car

HIRIKO, an innovative new car concept is set to change the way we commute and ultimately park in busy cities. The eco-friendly two seater runs on a lithium-ion battery and can cover a distance of 75 miles before it needs to recharge. It also boasts a zero-turn radius, which allows the car to spin round 360 degrees or move sideways in a crab-like manner. Additionally the HIRIKO can cleverly fold itself up into a more compact shape, enabling it to squeeze through tight gaps and into small parking spaces.

3.1. Leica M Camera

Leica is known for combining stylish retro looks with pioneering digital technologies. The new Leica M boasts newly developed high resolution and full-format features, powered by a 24-megapixel CMOS sensor which enables 1080p video capture at 24 and 25 frames per second. The Leica M continues to wow with additions such as Live-view and HD video shooting features, the likes of which have never even been offered before.

5.2. Balthazar Restaurant

Keith McNally's famous and very successful New York brasserie is making its way across the pond to set up shop in the former Theatre Museum in Covent Garden. The famed restaurateur has teamed up with Richard Caring, the man who has been involved with famous London establishments such as The Ivy, Le Caprice, and the Soho House group. Balthazar's all day dining experience will suit the late night post-theatre diners who'll be able to enjoy a classical and wide ranging French brasserie menu, including Fruits de Mer and bistro dishes. Like New York, Balthazar London will have an adjoining bakery with bread and patisseries made fresh everyday, only adding to the increasing anticipation of its debut.

6.2. Copenhagen Parts Magnetic Bike Light

For too long bike lights have either been too big, too retro, too cheap, not bright enough, too easily stolen, or too expensive. Copenhagen Parts has created a magnetic LED bike light that looks good, works well and can be fitted and removed instantly. It's a simple solution to a problem.

7.3. Honda Miimo Robot Lawn Mower

There are no hands required with this Honda Miimo robotic lawn mower. This ingenious gadget continuously shaves about 3 millimetres off grass, manoeuvres itself and is able to climb slopes of 24 degrees. It can also slow down its wheel speed in order to effectively cut areas of thick grass. It avoids potted plants, goes to charge itself on its own and will not wander off. Miimo is an innovative, quirky gadget which is sure to get people talking, yet is also a functional gardening aid.

8.1. Chanel Hula Hoop Bag

The most talked about item on the Chanel spring/summer 2013 catwalk - the hula hoop bag. The extremely oversized hoop bag made its eye-catching debut at Paris Fashion Week and has left a long-lasting memory. While the supersize catwalk version will not be available, a slightly more manageable version measuring 24cm across - the mini hula hoop bag - will be available to purchase.

9.4. Hasselblad Lunar Camera

Hasselblad, in partnership with Sony, have designed a stylish new camera with fully automatic or manual modes and interchangeable lenses encapsulated in a design of ultimate luxury. The new Hasselblad Lunar mirrorless model is a celebration of the passion that the company's founder had for photography. The abundance of high-spec technology and eye-catching design aesthetics warrant the Hasselblad Lunar's high price tag and make it a much sought after collector's item.

10.3. Aqua Group New Restaurant At The Shard

Aqua Group will operate two separate restaurants at the Shard, including a brand-new concept. Its restaurant on the 31st floor will feature a triple-height atrium facing towards the north and west of London. While further details are still to be released, previous eateries such as Aqua kyoto, Aqua nueva, and Aqua spirit are good indications as to the quality of what's to come.

11.2. Chanel ‘Lego’ Clutch Bag

Chanel's latest offering takes its inspiration from what most would say is a childhood classic, Lego. The 'Lego' clutch is sure to get people talking and reminiscing about days gone by. The unique bag comes with attachable straps and will be available in four different colours: green, red, yellow, and pink.

11.4. Heckfield Place

Heckfied Place, an 18th-century Georgian country estate, is set to re-open as a world-class luxury retreat. Set in 400 acres of garden, woodland, and rolling Hampshire countryside, the hotel will have the feel of a private home, where guests can seek solace in numerous intimate spaces in the 18th-century manor house and wider estate. Beautifully crafted with exquisite detail at every level, Heckfield Place will offer an authentic and elegant country house experience.

13.3. Mando ‘Footloose’ Hybrid E-Bike

The Mando Footloose has been causing quite a stir amongst bike enthusiasts. Claimed to be the world's first chainless hybrid electric bike, the folding e-bike, combines engineering more commonly seen in cars with good old-fashion pedal power. Its unique design, compact folding ability and dual winding motor in the rear wheel has made the Mando Footloose a much sought after item. Manual pedaling converts into self-generated electricity to power up the bike's battery, ideal for those periods when tired legs just want to cruise and take advantage of the engine.

14.5. Bruno Loubet’s Granary Square Kitchen

Chef Bruno Loubet's second restaurant is planned to open on Granary Square, a King's Cross development which also houses Central St Martin's College of Art & Design. The eatery will be less formal than its predecessor Bistrot Bruno Loubet. An informal vibe will be central to the theme of the restaurant where Loubet will invite guest chefs to cook with him and mixologists to showcase their talents to diners. The menu will have a strong focus on vegetables while the restaurant will seat 80.

14.4. Mercedes Benz E300 BlueTec Hybrid

Luxury car giant Mercedes-Benz has launched what is billed as one of the world's most economical luxury-class hybrids. Available in both saloon and estate, the new E300 BlueTec Hybrid combines the power of a 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engine developing 204 bhp with the energy of a 20 kW electric motor. It delivers fuel consumption of just 4.2-litres of diesel per 100km and low emissions of just 109g CO2/km.

17.6. Okku London

Okku, a luxury Japanese restaurant based in Dubai is set to open in London. Following in the same guise as its Dubai counterpart, it will boast luxurious surrounds, high-end cuisine and flashy cocktails tailored to the international jet-setting crowd. A firm favourite with high-profile personalities when in Dubai, its credentials are sure to make its London sibling one of the must-attend eateries in spring 2013.

18.7. Rainer Becker And Arjun Waney New Restaurant

Rainer Becker and Arjun Waney, responsible for the creation of both Zuma and the award winning Roka restaurant, will open a contemporary rotisserie and grill on the 32nd floor of the prestigious Shard, alongside a bar with a lighter menu and live music.

19.5. Blackberry 10

BlackBerry aims to reclaim its stake in the Smartphone market with the launch of its new BlackBerry 10. Two models will be released: one with a touch screen, the other with a Qwerty keyboard. Other features will include 'Blackberry Flow,' designed to allow users to move seamlessly between a range of apps, heading from an email to calendar to a social network without returning to a home screen. A digital keyboard, which, it is said, 'learns how you write and adapts to how you type so you can write faster and more accurately', is also amongst the BlackBerry 10's new advances.

20.4. Cartier Astrotourbillon Carbon Crystal Watch

Cartier's prestigious Astrotourbillon Carbon Crystal watch is the renowned watchmaker's first commercial piece to benefit from the advances made through the brand's ID programme (Innovation and Development). The titanium-niobium built timepiece will showcase mechanical advances such as being unaffected by temperature and never requiring any type of adjustment.

21.5. Alexander McQueen Embellished Box Clutch

Alexander McQueen's small but perfectly formed clutch bag exudes opulence. Ornate embellishment highlights the craftsmanship that goes into producing this little gem.

22.6. Marc by Marc Jacobs Pocket Detail Bag

An SS13 highlight from the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection is the brightly-coloured shoulder bag with multiple pockets. The creative use of clear plastic to form side compartments, which reveal smaller internal pockets create an unexpected fashion statement.

23.7. Marni Grid Bag

Checks and grid formations dominate the Marni ss13 collection. Taking reference from the Bauhaus movement this chic, structured bag, adopts a distinct geo pattern creating a simple, yet elegant, iconic bag.

24.8. Alexander McQueen Patent Frame Bag

Simple elegance by Alexander McQueen. A beautiful and classic patent frame bag with side zip detail ensures it should never go out of style.

25.1. Blue Marmalade Halo Lamp

Halo redefines the standard lamp. Utilising innovative technology, the super thin, double-sided light breaks away from what is traditionally expected from a light bulb. The Halo's directional light source, combined with its adjustabilitly, means it can be positioned so the light illuminates exactly where desired. Its low energy technology also make it an eco-friendly option which does not produce any heat.

26.5. Volkswagen Golf 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5-Door

Replacing one of the world's most successful cars is a hard job but with the new seventh-generation Golf, Volkswagen has managed to get the balance between continuity and change just right. It's a car in which owners of older Golfs will immediately feel at home, but also one that incorporates a number of improvements. Alongside its spec which includes a 38bhp 1.4 TSI turbo petrol engine, six-speed manual gearbox, with a cylinder-deactivation system that cuts two cylinders on a light load, the Golf 1.4 TSI GT ACT 5-door is subtly jazzier than its predecessor.

27.8. Arkady Novikov Brompton Asian Brasserie

Arkady Novikov has announced the launch of his next venture, a local restaurant in Knightsbridge. Located on the site that was formerly the Brompton Quarter Brasserie, the Brompton Asian Brasserie by Novikov will be Novikov's second restaurant project outside Russia. The eatery will bring together the best of contemporary European and Pan-Asian cuisine, in a carefully crafted menu which will include small plates or starters, mains, sharing dishes, and desserts. Set across two floors, the interior of Brompton Asian Brasserie has been created by Geometry Design Moscow, who also designed Novikov London, and will offer a relaxed yet refined environment. The ground floor will be transformed into a light, contemporary, and comfortable space that will boast an open kitchen, dining room, and discreet back area for private parties. Whilst the downstairs area will provide a cosy snug space in which to meet and relax over a meal and cocktails.

28.9. DB Berdan Briefcase Rucksack

DB Berdan's playful take on the classic satchel bag. The over-sized bag can be worn as a back-pack or in its more traditional hand-held form.

29.9. Shangri-La Hotel At The Shard

Shangri-La is one of the world's most opulent and exclusive hotel brands. Famous for its distinctly Far Eastern approach to service and hospitality. The 20 luxuriously appointed rooms will offer guests signature 5-star service, international restaurant, gym, pool and business facilities. Shangri-La at The Shard is the hotel group's first London location. Stunning views will be assured from floors 34 to 52 which the hotel occupies in Renzo Piano's iconic tower. The Shard is regarded as one of the most ambitious architectural endeavours in the UK. Its height make it one of the tallest buildings in Europe, while its soaring spire shape make it one of the most distinctive.

30.6. Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition

Porsche continues to bolster its Panamera line since the car was first introduced, adding models like the V6, Hybrid and GTS. The latest model is the Panamera Platinum Edition, which combines ultimate luxury with performance, and has brought new dynamism to Porsche's high-end vehicle segment. The Platinum Edition introduces a selection of further refinements from previous models. Visual changes include unique platinum silver metallic inserts on the lower grill, rear diffuser and on the bottom edges of the door mirrors for a subtle differentiation. A powerful yet smooth ride will be experienced courtesy of its elegantly constructed V6 engine and 19-inch turbo wheels with signature Platinum Edition embossed Porsche crest on the hub.

31.10. Burberry Blaze Bag

Burberry's PVC version of the doctor's bag; the 'Blaze' is a must-have accessory for SS13. Charted as the bag silhouette for next season, the catwalk was awash with variants of this arm-candy. Seen in satin and leather combinations and classic Burberry check with metallic trim; however the iconic PVC version is the bag to keep an eye out for. Available in a range of jewel hues to match any outfit day or night.

31.1. Marc Jacobs Sunshine Editions

Marc Jacobs continues to build on the success of his Daisy and OH, LOLA! fragrances with the launch of Marc Jacobs Sunshine Editions (Daisy Sunshine Edition, Daisy Eau So Fresh Sunshine Edition and OH, LOLA! Sunshine Edition) The limited edition collection will be launching in February. Some would say the vibrant bottle designs alone are worthy of an award.

31.1. Marni Debut Women’s Fragrance

Luxury fashion house Marni continues its individual style, this time with the launch of its first fragrance for women. The new fragrance reflects Marni's distinct style and it is said to be made for 'the woman who dresses herself, who doesn't follow trends but is sophisticated and also maybe a little eccentric.'

34.2. Vitamin Needle Lamp

Knitting takes a new form with this Needle Table Lamp, created by British design firm Vitamin. The cleverly designed lamp features a pair of adjustable aluminum needles which would not look out of place in a craft basket. The power cord, with its fabric sheath, wraps around the point where the needles intersect, adding to the illusion that they're in the process of creating a scarf or a sweater.

35.11. Karl Lagerfeld Debut Luxury Watch Collection

Karl Lagerfeld's debut watch collection is the latest addition to the designer's ever growing empire. The seven watch collection incorporates signature Lagerfeld details, the most distinguishing being the Karl Zip, which gives the watch an eccentric function, enabling the accessory to transform into several widths. Models are available with stainless steel bracelets, metallic leathers, pyramid-shaped studs and bold chains with the designer's signature profile featured on the crown in genuine, extravagant fashion.

36.12. Bottega Veneta Leather Tassel Bag

There is fringing galore with this two-tier tassel bag courtesy of Bottega Veneta. Known for producing finely crafted leather goods, this latest addition continues to reinforce the brand's credentials of outstanding craftsmanship, innovative design, contemporary functionality, and the use of the highest quality materials.

37.13. Thierry Mugler Handbag Collection

Nicola Formichetti's debut handbag collection for luxury fashion house Mugler has been long awaited. The flamboyant collection includes an abundance of vinyl fabric translated into metallic animal-skin clutches as well as an elongated vanity case.

38.3. Chivas 18 By Pininfarina

Chivas Regal 18 Year Old and Pininfarina come together for the first time and challenge traditional Scotch whisky traditions with a limited edition series: Chivas 18 by Pininfarina.

The design creative: 'The Drop' is inspired by air and liquid - the purest of aerodynamic forms. A leader in Italian design and engineering since 1930, Pininfarina first made its name designing for Ferrari and Maserati. Chivas Regal is the original luxury whisky blend, established in 1909. Chivas 18 comprises 20 of Scotland's rarest single malts. It marks the first time Pininfarina has ever collaborated with a luxury Scotch whisky and the first time Chivas 18 Year Old has worked with an Italian design house.

Pininfarina design is about aerodynamics, how air affects shape. Chivas 18 is symbolised by liquid. The Drop creative marries these two worlds through two limited edition presentation cases and a made to order Design Tree; the Chivas 18 by PIninfarina Mascherone. The sculpture is made to order in Cambiano. Five pieces will also be displayed around the world.

39.14. Anna Sui Eyewear Collection

The latest Anna Sui's 2013 eyewear collection is inspired by "Schiaparelli-era baroque glamour." Created with input from the designer herself, the range features the brand's signature rosebud, Sui's butterfly motif, and classic fret work design. A particular highlight is the Floral cabochons inspired sunglasses which effortlessly creates quirky, yet cool, eye-candy.
